Softball Heads to GLVC Championship After Defeating Bellarmine, 3-2

Box Score

PEORIA, ILL. – The No. 11 ranked University of the Missouri-St. Louis softball team advanced to its second straight Great Lakes Valley Conference championship game on Saturday by defeating Bellarmine, 3-2, in the winner's bracket final of the league tournament.

The No. 2 seed and defending champion Tritons will face the No. 4 seeded Knights again in tomorrow's championship game at 11 a.m. as Bellarmine battled back through the loser's bracket, defeating top-seeded and No. 9 ranked Indianapolis, 4-0, this evening. If UMSL would lose that game, a second game would follow as the Tritons have not lost yet in the double-elimination tournament.

UMSL improves to 44-6 overall with the win, tying the school record for victories, set by the 1995 team.

The Tritons recorded just four hits in the win, two of which were homeruns, including a solo shot by junior Jena Boudreau in the first inning and a two-run blast by GLVC Freshman of the Year Alex Stupek in the fourth. Boudreau's homerun extended her hitting streak to 11 games and was her 10th of the season, while Stupek connected for her 11th of the year.

Sophomore Hannah Perryman tossed the complete-game three-hitter, improving to 24-5 on the season. She struck out 14 in the victory, bringing her season Ks total to 354, breaking her own single season record of 352 last season, which led all of NCAA DII.

Bellarmine broke up Perryman's no-hitter in the fifth inning with a leadoff single and plated a two-out unearned run in the sixth on an UMSL error. Perryman then retired the first two batters she faced in the seventh inning before giving up a solo homerun, which cut the lead to 3-2. After putting GLVC Player of the Year Ally Foster on base for the third time with a walk, Perryman struck out Erin Sireno to end the game.
