Softball Advances to Seventh Straight GLVC Championship

EAST PEORIA, ILL. – Junior Andee Tiffee tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team to a 2-0 10-inning win over No. 12 ranked Indianapolis on Saturday in the winner's bracket final of the 2019 GLVC Tournament. With the win, the top-seeded Tritons advance tomorrow's championship game.

The Tritons will be making their seventh -straight appearance in the league's title contest, having won championships in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. First pitch is slated for Noon tomorrow with the 'if necessary' game to follow should UMSL get beat in the first game with the double elimination tournament format. The opponent will be determined following the completion of today's other elimination contests.

Tiffee retired the first 23 batters she faced before the Greyhounds got a runner on with a two-out single in the eighth. Tiffee (16-4) tallied 11 strikeouts and did not issue any walks.

The Tritons were also limited to four hits in the pitcher's duel which saw UIndy's Halie Waters strike out 17 and walk five, but senior Chelsea Martinez was able to record her 11th home run of the season in the 10th. Martinez, who struck out in her first four at bats, fouled off five pitches before sending the sixth pitch over the fence down the right field line. The shot also drove in senior Reagan Osborn, who reached on a two-out single.

The Greyhounds threatened to end the game in the ninth, but right fielder Carlie Kudary threw out Sydnie Foster at home for the second out as she was trying to score from second base on a short single.

The win was also the 13th straight for the Tritons, who improve to 34-17. Indianapolis slips to 44-13.
