EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday night with an 87-61 loss to Southern Indiana in quarterfinal round action of the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Tritons end the year with a 20-9 record, while the three-seeded Screaming Eagles (22-7) advance to Saturday's semifinals.
USI shot 50.8 percent and got a game-high 27 points from senior Alex Stein, while holding a 16-11 advantage in second chance points and a 17-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
UMSL was limited to a season-low 31 percent shooting, which also marked just the third time this season they've shot under 40 percent.

Eric Dust (16 points) and
Johnathan Matthews (13 points) combined for 29 points in their final collegiate game.
How it Happened
Southern Indiana held a 44-29 halftime advantage after leading from the start. The Screaming Eagles jumped out to a 14-3 lead before upping it to 21-9 at the 13:46 mark. UMSL then followed with an 11-4 run to pull within 25-20 three minutes and 37 seconds later with Matthews knocking down a pair of three-pointers during that stretch.
USI outscored the Tritons, 14-4, over the final 3:21 of the half, which included a string of 10 straight.
Stein scored seven straight early in the second half to give his team a 54-36 lead with just over five minutes played in the second half. UMSL followed with six straight to get within 14 points, but would get no closer.
