EAST PEORIA, ILL. - Senior
Alex Stupek became the University of Missouri-St. Louis' all-time home runs leader with 51 on Thursday as the No. 3 seeded Tritons defeated No. 6 seed Illinois Springfield, 2-0, in opening round action of the GLVC Tournament.
Stupek's long ball came in the second inning and was followed by senior
Sara Kern, for the only two runs UMSL would need.
The Tritons (36-13) advance to play No. 2 seed Rockhurst later this evening.
Sophomore
Carly Kingery took care of the rest, tossing the complete-game three-hit shutout behind 12 strikeouts. Kingery, who notched her 20th win of the season, retired the first 10 batters she faced before allowing a one-out bunt single in the fourth. Of the three hits surrendered, only one left the infield and that didn't come until the sixth inning.
Kern tallied three of UMSL's six hits, adding a double and a single to go with her home run.
