EAST PEORIA, ILL. – The No. 2 seeded and No. 6 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team was denied its fourth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship on Sunday with a 7-1 loss to top-seeded and No. 2 ranked Indianapolis in the title game.
After being washed out yesterday, it was an early Sunday morning start for the Tritons, who won three consecutive games to work their way into their fourth straight championship appearance. The day began with a 5-1 eight-inning win over No. 4 seed Maryville and continued with a 2-1 10-inning victory over No. 5 seed Truman State. UMSL then downed No. 3 seed Southern Indiana, 10-0, in five innings to avenge Friday's loss to the Screaming Eagles, which sent the Tritons to the loser's bracket.
UMSL moves its ledger to 52-7 overall and will learn of its NCAA Tournament plans tomorrow at 9 a.m. when the bracket is revealed. Regional play begins on Thursday.
With its win over Maryville, the Tritons clinched a 50-win season for the first time in program history, while also in that victory, senior
Hannah Perryman put her name atop another NCAA Division II list, breaking the single season strikeout record, bettering CSUN's Kathy Slaten's 1985 mark of 533.
UMSL 5, Maryville 1 (8 inn.)
- A pair of long balls, including a solo shot from junior
Alex Stupek and a three-run shot from junior
Ryan Logan in the top of the eighth, helped UMSL to the win.
- UMSL knotted the score in the sixth inning on sophomore
Jennah Perryman's RBI infield single that scored Stupek. She led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a Saints throwing error.
- Perryman struck out 11 and surrendered six hits, including a fourth inning leadoff home run to the Saints' Nikki Taylor.
- Stupek recorded three of UMSL's eight hits, while Logan added two hits and three RBIs.
UMSL 2, Truman 1 (10 inn.)
- J. Perryman's RBI single scored sophomore
Rachel Matthies, who led off with a single, for the game-winner in the 10
th.
- UMSL had runners in scoring position in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings as well, but could not get across the plate.
- Both teams scored in the first inning with the Tritons' run coming on Stupek's sac fly.
- J. Perryman was 4-of-5 at the plate, while Logan and Matthies added two hits each.
- H. Perryman tossed all 10 innings, allowing the one run on six hits, while striking out seven and walking two. She improved to 44-4 in the circle.
UMSL 10, Southern Indiana 0 (5 inn.)
- UMSL pounded out 14 hits and scored in four of the five innings, including five times on five hits in the fifth.
- All nine batters reached base at least once.

Serena Olson had three hits and three RBIs, while Matthies also tallied three hits and scored two runs.

Carly Kingery tossed the complete game shutout, scattering four hits, while striking out six and walking one.
UIndy 7, UMSL 1
- The Greyhounds scored four times in the second inning off Kingery, who suffered the loss, falling to 8-3 on the year. She struck out four and gave up five hits.

Reagan Osborn delivered a solo home run in the fifth inning for one of two hits as the offense was quieted by GLVC Pitcher of the Year Morgan Foley, who recorded 16 strikeouts.
- H. Perryman threw four innings in relief and allowed three runs on three hits, including two home runs. Perryman struck out four and moved her season strikeout total to 552 and her career total to 1,710.
