PEORIA, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball saw its season come to an end on Friday evening with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-22 loss to McKendree in quarterfinal round action of the GLVC Tournament.
The Tritons end their season with an 18-12 overall record, the program's most wins since 2011, while McKendree improves to 22-9 with its eighth straight win and advances to tomorrow's semifinal against either Indianapolis or Rockhurst.
The Bearcats hit .467 in the win, while limiting UMSL to .155 as they owned a 9-2 blocking advantage.
Senior
Gaylnn Jones led UMSL with nine kills and seven digs, while freshman
Selena Nolte recorded eight kills, five of which came in the first set.
Junior
Madyson Abeyta tallied 20 assists and added two service aces, both of which came in the third set as UMSL jumped out to an early 6-1 lead.
Junior
Danielle Waedekin recorded nine digs, bringing her season total to 581, which ranks second on the program's single season charts.
The match marked the final contest of the careers of Jones and fellow seniors
Lexi Rogers and
Samantha Lewis. Rogers graduates ranking eighth all-time in career hitting percentage (.268).
