Women's Soccer Defeats UW-Parkside, 3-1, to Advance to GLVC Tournament Semifinals

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Miriam Taylor scored the game-winner and netted an insurance goal to help the three-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over sixth-seeded Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday afternoon in quarterfinal round action of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The Tritons advance to Friday's semifinals against No. 2 seed and 15th ranked Rockhurst. The game will be played at Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis at a time yet to be announced by the GLVC office.

UMSL improves its ledger to 12-3-1, while UW-Parkside ends its season at 10-6-2.

Taylor's game-winner was her fifth of the year and came at the 79 minute mark as she one-timed it outside the 18 on a long pass forward from senior Kayla Delgado.

The goal broke a 1-1 deadlock that stood since the early minutes of the game.

Sophomore McKayla Harder put UMSL on top, 1-0, in the fifth minute on a shot from 40 yards out, but the lead only stood until the seventh minute when the Rangers converted a penalty kick.

Taylor added the insurance goal in the final minute of play. Sophomore Lauren Lottmann passed the ball up to Taylor who beat three defenders and the goalie to put the shot into the top half of the net.

Taylor finished with four shots, landing three on goal, as UMSL held a 20-12 advantage in shots, including an 11-4 edge in shots on goal.

Harder, whose goal was her team-leading seventh of the year, took five shots, landing three on goal. Harder had one shot hit the crossbar with an open net four minutes in to the second half.

Sophomore McKenzie DeRouen played all 90 minutes in goal, recording three saves.
