LEMONT, ILL. – For the third time in the last five years, the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's golf team has earned a spot in the NCAA Division II Championships.
The Tritons recorded a third place finish at the NCAA Midwest/Central Regional, held Monday-Wednesday, at the Cog Hill Country Club, and are one of five teams from the regional advancing to the NCAA Championships May 18-22 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C.
It marks the ninth NCAA Championships appearance for the program and the third under the direction of sixth-year head coach
Troy Halterman. UMSL's last appearance was in 2013, in which the Tritons posted a program-best tie for fifth place finish.
The Tritons finished regional play with a 54-hole score of 896 (295-298-303), 11 strokes behind regional champion Central Oklahoma (296-297-292 – 885). Second place went to Central Missouri (895), while other teams advancing on include fourth place Southwestern Oklahoma State (898) and fellow Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Indianapolis (905), who defeated Minnesota State Mankato in a tiebreaker.
Individually for UMSL, junior
Anthony Cope tied for 12
th place with a 222 (76-71-75), while sophomore
Matt Barry was one stroke behind with a 223 (70-74-79).
Medalist honors went to Central Oklahoma's Eric Kline, who shot a 214 (71-72-71 – 214).

Markus Lindberg, who owned today's best round of 73 for the Tritons, finishing with a 226 (77-76-73); sophomore
Julien de Poyen (72-82-79 – 233); and junior
Colby Yates (82-77-76 – 235).
