PEORIA, ILL. – The No. 2 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team advanced to its third straight Great Lakes Valley Conference championship on Saturday afternoon with 3-0 win over Lewis. The two-time defending champs will go for the three-peat tomorrow at Noon against an opponent yet to be determined.
The top-seeded Tritons received another stellar game in the circle from junior ace
Hannah Perryman, who struck out 17 in the complete game one-hitter. The Flyers had just two runners reach base, one in the first inning on an error, and one in the second with a leadoff single, but from there, Perryman retired 15 straight to end the game and record her 13
th shutout of the season, improving to 25-3 in the circle. She also moved into 15
th place on the NCAA DII career charts with 1,102 career strikeouts.
Offensively, UMSL recorded seven hits, five of which were for extra base, including a solo home run from senior
Katie Rutledge in the fourth inning, which marked the team's 100
th long ball of the season. The Tritons become just the fifth team in NCAA DII history to accomplish that feat.
Rutledge also picked up an RBI for UMSL's first run of the game in the second inning, drawing a bases loaded walk.
Sophomore
Alex Stupek recorded two doubles, while sophomore
Sara Kern added a pair of hits, including a double. Senior
Madison Zbaraschuk finished with a double and used a sac fly in the third inning to score Stupek.
UMSL improves its ledge to 43-6 overall.
