KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis defeated Lewis, 5-1, on Friday afternoon in one of four quarterfinal round matches at the GLVC Tennis Championships. With the win, the Tritons advance to tomorrow's semifinals against No. 24 ranked Indianapolis at 12 p.m.
UMSL, which has won three straight, improves to 11-7 overall.
The Tritons lost at No. 1 doubles, but won the next five matches to garner the win, including victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles.
Three-time All-GLVC honoree
Tim McLarty went 2-0 on the day, winning at No. 2 doubles with freshman
Alberto Maza Martin, before claiming No. 2 singles. With that win McLarty became the program's all-time wins leader in singles matches with 66. Freshman
Kristoffer Lindal also made it a two-win day, taking No. 3 doubles with junior
Irving Corrales before winning at No. 6 in convincing 6-0, 6-1 fashion. Senior
Harry Heyburn took No. 4 singles by the same score, while senior
Nils Mueggenburg was up one set on GLVC Player of the Year Armand Levandi at No. 1 singles before the victory was sealed by UMSL.
