Quincy Eliminates UMSL From GLVC Tournament, Bringing Tritons Season to a Close

EVANSVILLE, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 9-5 loss to Quincy in an elimination game of the 2014 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
 
With rain and severe weather in the Evansville, Ind., area all day, the game began at 2:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon at Bosse Field, but ended around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the Southern Indiana Field. The official rain delay time was seven hours and 57 minutes.
 
The Tritons end their season with a 26-24 record.
 
Junior JJ Kinnevan helped UMSL to its first two runs, driving in junior Shane Brinker in the second to knot the score at 1-1 and then tripling in the fourth inning to give the Tritons a 2-1 lead. Freshman Jake Beckwith also delivered an RBI triple in the fourth as UMSL's lead built to 3-1.
 
Quincy then scored once in the fifth before plating three runs in the seventh, taking a 5-3 lead into the rain delay.
 
Once the game resumed, senior Cody Garlington doubled to left center, bringing two runners home and tying the score at 5-5.
 
A Tritons error in the eighth allowed the Hawks to score the go ahead run, while Quincy added three more in the ninth.
 
Quincy pounded out 18 hits in the victory. Senior Kyle Dermody was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in two and one-thirds of an inning of relief work.
 
The Tritons tallied 11 hits, including two each from Beckwith, Garlington and Kinnevan.
