JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against No. 10 Lincoln at Dwight T. Reed Stadium in Jefferson City, Mo., on Sunday afternoon. The Tritons are 1-2-4, 1-1-3 GLVC while the Blue Tigers are 5-0-1, 3-0-1 GLVC.
UMSL struck first with a goal in the 31st minute. After a foul on
Jack Franklin,
Kyler Sorber sent the ball downfield and
Melo Mensah ran onto it in the box and chipped it over the goalkeeper for his first of the season.
That goal held until the 60th minute when Lincoln got the equalizer. Nkouka Loubasou scored with assists from Adam Griffiths and Hadri Lopez for his third goal of the season.
The Tritons had two chances at the game-winner in the final 15 minutes as
Max Matarelli missed a shot from out top in the 80th minute and then Sorber had a chance a couple of minutes later that missed.
Franklin came up with two big saves in the final four minutes to preserve the draw. He stopped Adam Benrahou in the 87th minute and then in the final 0:30 he denied Griffiths.
UMSL was outshot in the contest 9-4 including 4-2 in shots on goal. Mensah, Sorber, Matarelli and
Solomon Wanyonyi each took a shot in the contest. Franklin finished with three saves.
The Tritons are back at home this Friday (Oct. 3) hosting Christian Brothers at 2 p.m. at Don Dallas Field.
