Indianapolis Ends Tritons Softball Season in GLVC Tourney

EAST PEORIA, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball season came to an end with a 16-6 loss to No. 4 seed Indianapolis Friday afternoon at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The No. 7 seeded Tritons avoided elimination earlier in the day with a 7-4 victory over No. 6 seed Rockhurst.

UIndy (37-25) pounded out 20 hits and scored six runs in the first three innings en route to the victory.

The Tritons were limited to seven hits with junior Kelly Essner and senior Jessica Keim collecting two hits each.

Freshman Crystal Koehler took the loss, giving up four earned runs on four hits in two innings.

Keim went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and junior Megan Riggs went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, helping UMSL past Rockhurst.

The Hawks scored once in the second inning before the Tritons struck with three runs in the third courtesy of a three-run triple by Keim.

Keim added another RBI in the fifth inning with a single through the left side that scored Riggs. Senior Alex Ogle then reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring senior Dana Essner. Keim scored the third run, reaching home on an unsuccessful stolen base by Ogle.

Rockhurst scored once in the bottom of the fifth before UMSL put its final run on the board in the sixth when Riggs singled to score sophomore Carly Maddock. The Hawks scored twice in the sixth for the final score.

Junior Allyson DeFosset recorded her 16th win of the season, working five innings. She allowed six hits and struck out three.

Keim moved into third place all-time in UMSL history with 177 career hits. She also graduates with the fourth-best doubles total (35) and fifth-best RBIs total (78).

Senior Casey Dierkes added to her school record home run total with a two-run shot over left field against Indianapolis. She ends her career as the all-time leader with 14 home runs.

UMSL ends its season with a 28-26 record.
