ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team rebounded from a 9-4 loss to Ouachita Baptist in the morning to defeat Henderson State 12-2 in the nightcap of the Henderson State Hot Springs Classic Saturday.
UMSL now stands at 4-2 on the season.
The Tritons pounded 16 hits in the victory over the Reddies (6-6), getting three apiece from freshman Haleigh Jenkins and senior Meaghan Bauer.
Senior Katie Bartlett, the reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and two runs scored, delivering a fifth-inning grand slam.
Jenkins finished with three RBIs, delivering a two-run shot in the second inning.
Freshman Leslie Davis recorded the win in the circle, striking out four in five innings, while allowing two runs on six hits.
Ouachita Baptist (9-1) scored a combined seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings and were aided by three UMSL errors in those two frames to help garner win.
The Tritons took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring a pair of unearned runs before the Tigers rallied for the victory.
Offensively, OBU out-hit the Tritons, 13-6. Bartlett also tallied a homer in that contest.
Sophomore Stephanie Benson suffered the loss, pitching two innings in relief and scattering seven hits.
Junior Amanda Seib worked the first four innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three.
UMSL resumes play tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game against Arkansas Tech and a 3 p.m. contest against Arkansas-Monticello. Go Back
