 August 12, 2010INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team has been picked to finish 10th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll, as announced today by the league office.
Northern Kentucky, which won the conference title last year, was selected to repeat the feat in 2010 by the league’s 15 head coaches. The Norse recorded 190 total points, including 12 of 15 first-place votes to outdistance Quincy, who finished second.
The Hawks recorded 177 points and collected two first-place votes, while Bellarmine totaled 163 points to finish third in the poll. Wisconsin-Parkside picked up the final first-place vote, finishing fourth with 155 points.
Indianapolis finished fifth with 148 points and was followed by Drury (146 total points), Southern Indiana (113), Rockhurst (103), Lewis (82), UMSL (81), Missouri S&T (70), Maryville (65), Kentucky Wesleyan (37), St. Joseph’s (27) and Illinois-Springfield (18).
Illinois-Springfield will be eligible for the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship in 2010. Maryville will not be eligible for a women's soccer league title until the 2011 season.
The 15 member institutions will compete in a 14-match round robin conference schedule and the top eight teams in the league standings will advance to the 2010 GLVC Tournament which is scheduled to begin on Oct. 31. The highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round will host the GLVC semifinals and final on Nov. 5 and 7, respectively.
UMSL, under the direction of second-year head coach Bobby Lessentine, returns 10 letterwinners from last year's 4-11-1 team, and also welcomes 10 talented newcomers who are expected to make an immediate impact.
The Tritons open the 2010 season on Sunday, September 5, hosting Indianapolis in GLVC play. Go Back
