ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis head women’s soccer coach Bobby Lessentine has announced the signing of Kaylee Neutzling, Kelly Muesenfechter, Jessica Randazzo, Bridget Belli, Lindsay Marcinik, April Goodman, Jaime Morton and Suzy Ryan to national letters of intent to join the Tritons program beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.
Highlighting the group are four transfers from Lewis & Clark Community College, which won the NJCAA Division I national championship in 2008 and finished in the final four in 2009.
Included in that group is Neutzling, a two-time NSCAA National Player of the Year. Also a two-time NSCAA and NJCAA first team all-American, Neutzling led Lewis & Clark in scoring as a freshman and sophomore, scoring 85 goals and recording 24 assists for 194 career points in 44 contests. She also is a two-time NSCAA and NJCAA first team all-region selection and was the 2009 NJCAA Region 24 MVP and twice earned first team all-MWAC accolades.
As a prep at Edwardsville (Ill.) High School, Neutzling was an IHSSCA all-state selection as a senior and earned team MVP honors.
She also played club soccer with St. Louis Scott Gallagher in Illinois.
“Kaylee is a highly decorated forward, who has a knack for scoring goals,” said Lessentine. “She should step in right away and make a very positive influence on the scoreboard for us this fall.”
Muesenfechter was a two-time first team all-MWAC honoree at Lewis & Clark and earned 2008 NSCAA and NJCAA first team all-American honors. As a freshman she was second in scoring behind Neutzling with 35 goals and recorded a team-best 21 assists for 91 points. As a sophomore, she tallied 10 goals and 14 assists, finishing her LCCC career with 125 points in 48 games.
The O’Fallon, Mo., native prepped at Fort Zumwalt North for current Maryville University head coach Eric Delabar, where she was a three-time MVP and an all-metro and all-state selection.
No stranger to UMSL athletics, Muesenfechter is the sister of former soccer Tritons Krisie and Danny and the daughter of former Riverman all-American Dan, who is also a member of the UMSL Sports Hall of Fame.
She played club soccer for her father Dan at Mid Rivers Soccer Club.
“Kelly is the latest in a long-line of talented Muesenfechter soccer players at UMSL,” Lessentine said. “She is a hard-working, unselfish and very talented forward who makes those around her look better. I look forward to watching her continue her family legacy.”
Randazzo, the sister of former soccer Triton Joey, earned second team all-MWAC honors at Lewis & Clark Community College.
The Florissant, Mo., native, prepped at Hazelwood Central, where she was a team captain and a first team all-conference honoree.
Randazzo also played club soccer for Dan Muesenfechter at Mid Rivers Soccer Club.
“Jessica is a versatile player who could see time in the midfield or in the back,” said Lessentine. “She will add some much needed firepower on free kicks and corners and is great at disturbing opponents’ rhythm during the run of play.”
The final Lewis & Clark transfer is Belli, who was selected to the NJCAA all-tournament team as a freshman and earned second team all-MWAC accolades as a sophomore.
Belli prepped at Hazelwood (Mo.) West with current Triton Jesa Jenkins and incoming freshman Suzy Ryan, where she was a four-time all-conference selection, earning first team nods three times. She was also a two-time team MVP and played club soccer for Missouri Premier.
“Bridget is a feisty player who was an integral part of the Lewis & Clark midfield,” said Lessentine. “I expect her to come in and do the same for us. She will add quite a bit of spice to our mix in the midfield.”
Marcinik is a senior at Bayside (Fla.) High School, ranked No. 1 in Florida and top 20 nationally. She plays club soccer for Space Coast United.
“Lindsay is a very hardworking midfielder who never seems to stop moving,” said Lessentine. “She has a great work ethic and ability to distribute the ball, which should allow her to compete for time in the midfield for us next year.”
Goodman is a senior at Plano (Texas) High School and plays club soccer for Texas Football Club.
“April will add some much needed speed to our team and could see time as a forward or a wide player,” said Lessentine. “She comes from one of the country’s hotbeds of soccer where every club and high school game is tough, so I know the fitness and toughness she possesses will serve her well at UMSL.”
Morton is currently a freshman at the University of Michigan, where she walked on to former US National Team Coach Greg Ryan’s Wolverine squad last fall.
As a prep at Portage (Mich.) High School, Morton helped her team to three conference and district championships, two regional championships and the 2009 Division I state championship.
She played club soccer for TKO Premier.
“I am really excited to see Jaime in action with our team,” said Lessentine. “I am interested to see how her training under Greg Ryan has benefited her. If she brings the tools needed to make the team at Michigan, she should do well here.”
Ryan prepped at Hazelwood (Mo.) West, leading her team to the 2009 district championship. Rated as one of the top 20 St. Louis area players by ESPN Rise, Ryan was named the Varsity Newcomer of the Year as a freshman, led her team in scoring as a sophomore and junior and earned all-conference and all-metro honors.
She plays club soccer for Lou Fusz.
“Suzy has done a great job leading her high school team in scoring the past two seasons with her senior year still to come,” said Lessentine. “I hope she will add a new attacking dimension to our team either up front or in wide midfield positions.”
