Women's Tennis Competes in ITA Midwest Regionals

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s tennis team was highlighted by juniors Aya Gombo and Stephanie Thompson on the first day of competition at the 2009 Women’s Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals Friday in Indianapolis, Ind.

Gombo and Thompson both won first round singles matches before bowing out, while sophomores Leticia Garcia and Pujitha Bandi also competed, losing their first round matches.

In doubles play, Thompson and Gombo teamed for an 8-5 opening round win over Indianapolis’ Starkey and Barger before falling 8-4 to Michigan Tech’s Rondelli and Suthijindawong.

Also in doubles play, sophomore Katie Rynkiewich and freshman Kristiana Lazarova lost an 8-1 decision in their first match to Drury’s Sharpe and Tryboi.
