Women's Basketball Season Ends in GLVC Quarterfinals at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 94-66 loss at No. 3 ranked Indianapolis Sunday afternoon in quarterfinal round action of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.

The Tritons, seeded third in the West Division, end their season at 12-17, while UIndy, seeded first in the East Division, improves its ledger to 26-2 and advances to next weekend’s semifinals in Springfield, Ill.

UIndy raced to a 10-2 advantage in the game’s first two minutes with junior forward Katie Lyons scoring the Greyhounds’ first seven points. The home team then took a 25-10 lead just under the 13-minute mark before a 7-2 UMSL run capped by a Hailee Deckard three-pointer with 10:04 on the clock brought the Tritons within 27-17. However the Greyhounds responded with a 10-4 run for a 37-16 advantage with just over seven minutes before the half.

UIndy then scored the final five points of the first stanza for a 49-31 intermission advantage.

Senior Lindsey Ransome and sophomore Caitlyn Moody paced the offense with 11 points each, while senior Kristi White and sophomore Hailee Deckard both followed with 10 points.

The Tritons finished the game shooting 46.6 percent from the field, but connected on just 25 percent from three-point range, while the Greyhounds shot 58.1 percent, including 47.6 percent from long range.

UIndy also held a 35-23 rebounding edge and took advantage of 17 UMSL turnovers, converting 20 points on the other end.

Junior Kelly Mitchell pulled down a team-best six rebounds, while dishing out four assists.

Today’s game marked the final career game for seniors Montrice Coggins, Alisa Ndorongo, Lindsey Ransome, Lacey Shalenko and Kristi White.

TRITON TIDBITS: Indianapolis improves to 16-8 all-time against UMSL and has won the last five meetings… UMSL’s 12 wins this season are the most since the 2005-06 squad posted 16 victories… senior Kristi White recorded her 300th career assist, becoming just the sixth player in program history to do so.
