GAME TWO
ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost a pair of 1-0 games against SIU Edwardsville Tuesday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at the UMSL Softball Field.
Despite taking the loss on the mound, junior Allyson DeFosset gave up just two hits, while fanning six and walking five in the game one 1-0 defeat.
SIUE scored the lone run of the game, a home run to left field in the fourth inning by Lauren Zembruski.
Freshman Crystal Koehler, who pitched her first complete game of the season, gave the Tritons another solid effort on the mound in second game, allowing just one run on four hits.
SIUE’s Mallory Ruggles hit a groundball up the middle in the sixth inning to score Nicole Beecher, who reached on a double to deep centerfield to lead off the inning that broke a scoreless game.
UMSL now stands at 20-22 on the season, including 11-11 in the GLVC, while SIUE, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, improves its ledger to 37-9 and 15-5 in the league.
UMSL returns to action Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader, hosting Washington University-St. Louis at 4 p.m.
