GAME TWO
ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior Megan Riggs went 5-for-6 at the plate with an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team to a sweep over non-conference foe Hillsdale College Tuesday afternoon at the UMSL Softball Field.
The Tritons won the opener, 8-0, in six innings and took the second game 5-2. UMSL moved its record to 16-18 on the season with the wins, while Hillsdale dropped to 7-25.
Freshman Crystal Koehler picked up the win in game one, giving up just three hits in five innings, while striking out four.
The Tritons scored once in the first inning and then twice in the second and fourth innings before a three-run sixth inning ended the game. Senior Jennifer Beckmann delivered a two-run homerun to put UMSL’s first two runs of the sixth on the board.
The Tritons recorded 11 hits with Riggs, junior Kelly Essner and freshman Karey Kruse collecting two apiece.
Junior Allyson DeFosset picked up the win in relief in game two, working three and a third innings. The hurler struck out eight of the 11 batters she faced, while not allowing a hit.
Senior Jessica Keim connected on a two-run double in the fifth inning, scoring freshman Ja Cee Ellis and sophomore Megan Brussman, to break a 2-2 tie en route to the victory.
Senior Casey Dierkes recorded her third home run of the season with a two-out shot over the left center fence in the third inning. It was also Dierkes’ 13th career home run, making her the all-time leader in UMSL history.
The Tritons finished the second game with nine hits. Riggs collected three, while junior Stephanie Kelly had a pair.
