Watts Nets 1,000th Career Point as Tritons Fall to Quincy

ST. LOUIS, MO., February 16, 2008 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team lost a 72-61 decision to Quincy Saturday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference. The contest marked the final home game of the season for the Tritons.

Senior Courtney Watts recorded her 1,000th career point, becoming just the 11th player in program history to do so and the first since Christy Lane (2000-03). Watts reached the milestone with 9:09 to play in the second half and finished the contest with nine points, bringing her career total to 1,005 points, which also puts her in 10th place all-time at UMSL.

Junior Kristi White led the Tritons with 15 points, while sophomore Lindsey Ransome added eight points and collected a career-high 10 rebounds.

UMSL falls to 6-17 overall with the loss, including 3-12 in the GLVC, while Quincy improves to 15-8, including 10-5 in league play.

Quincy used a 14-0 run midway through the second half to turn a four-point deficit into a 60-50 advantage with 4:02 to play and never looked back.

The Hawks held a 26-22 halftime lead, but the Tritons came out in the second half scoring seven straight points to take a 29-26 lead on a lay-up by freshman Katherine Sheffield with 17:02 to play.

UMSL finished the game shooting 33.9 percent and committed 29 turnovers, resulting in 28 points on the other end for Quincy. The Hawks finished the game shooting at a 36.5 percent clip.

The Tritons held a 51-43 rebounding advantage with Sheffield pulling down seven rebounds.

UMSL returns to action Thursday at No. 6 ranked Drury. Tip-off is slated for 5:45 p.m.
