Brian Levin | Softball Head Coach

Brian Levin begins his second season as head softball coach.

In his first season, Levin directed the program to a 31-20 record and the program’s second regular season Great Lakes Valley Conference title in three seasons. For his efforts, he was named the league’s Coach of the Year. Additionally, he had six players earn all-GLVC honors under his guidance, including senior JaCee Ellis, who was named the GLVC Player of the Year.

Levin came to UMSL following one season at NCAA Division I Murray State, helping lead the Racers to a 22-29 record in its inaugural season, including a fifth-place finish in the 11-team Ohio Valley Conference and a berth in the league’s post-season tournament.

The Granite City, Ill., native is also the founder of STAAR hitting mechanics and camps and the ASA Clarksville Heat Softball Organization in Clarksville, Tenn. In his 11 years of coaching, his teams have consistently hit over .300 as a team.

Levin played collegiate football and baseball at Peru State College where he was a two-time all-conference player. He finished his baseball career with a .344 batting averaging and moved on to play Fastpitch softball in southeast Nebraska and semi-professional baseball in the St. Louis area. Levin also earned All-American place-kicker honors in college.

Levin has spent the last 20 years in the military, including the last 15 stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., with the 5th Special Forces Group. While stationed at Ft. Campbell he was an active volunteer coach for football, baseball and softball at Ft. Campbell High School.

Levin earned a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Peru State University in 1988 and a master's degree from Northcentral University in sports management and leadership in 2009.

Levin is married to the former Michelle Morgan and has two children, Alisha (24) and Matthew (20). Alisha played softball for Providence College, while Matthew is on the football team at the University of Dubuque.



Kim McCall | Assistant Softball Coach

Kim McCall enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Tritons softball program.

McCall comes to UMSL from St. Louis Community College-Meramec where she was the head coach for three seasons (2009-11). She directed the 2010 team to a second place finish in NJCAA Division II. During her reign, McCall had numerous players earn all-conference and all-Region 16 honors as well as NFCA all-region honors.

A native of Rockville, Md., McCall graduated from Methodist College (now University) in 2005 with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training and a minor in physical education. McCall was a four-year starter at shortstop for the Monarchs and received all-conference, all-tournament team and all-region honors in addition to being named Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Following graduation, McCall headed to Lynchburg College as the graduate assistant softball coach from 2006-2008. As an assistant, McCall helped with all aspects of the program including recruiting, conditioning, offense and defense, and scouting. She was able to work with a program that garnered two Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Championships, two NCAA Division III Regional Appearances, one NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Championship, and one NCAA Division III College World Series appearance. McCall received her Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008 from Lynchburg College.

McCall is a 2001 graduate of the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, Md., and was a four-year varsity starter during her high school career. She was a member of the high school’s first ever Washington Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2001 for softball.
