INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's golf, women's tennis and volleyball teams have all been named recipients of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Team Academic Award.
The GLVC recognizes each team from member institutions that have maintained a 3.30 grade point average for the academic year. There were a league-record 100 teams that earned the honor for the 2012-13 academic year, shattering the previous mark of 85 set a year ago.
The Tritons women's golfers posted a team grade point average of 3.56, to lead all of UMSL's 11 programs. The volleyball squad achieved a 3.49, while women's tennis recorded a 3.49.
There were a total of 82 women's teams and 18 men's squads tabbed for the honor, which marks a respective increase of 10 and five for each gender from a year ago. On the women's side, soccer led the way with 12 of the league's 16 teams earning the accolade, while the remaining seven sports were each represented by more than half of the conference contingent: tennis (11), volleyball (11), basketball (10), golf (10), softball (10), cross country (9), and track and field (9).
Maryville University and Rockhurst University led all institutions with the most teams honored as each institution had a conference-record 10 clubs on the Team Academic All-GLVC list.
The McKendree University men's and women's tennis squads both posted the highest team GPA during the 2012-13 academic year with a 3.77. Drury University's women's tennis program followed at 3.75, while the William Jewell College women's basketball team turned in the third-best GPA at 3.73.
