Drury Edges Men's Soccer in Double OT in GLVC Tourney

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Drury’s Micah Whorton scored in the 106th minute to break a 0-0 tie as the top-seeded Panthers defeated the No. 8 seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team, 1-0, in double overtime Sunday afternoon in quarterfinal round action of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Harrison Stadium.

Whorton registered the game-winning goal at the 105:42 mark.

Drury, also ranked fourth nationally, improves to 18-1-0 on the season and advances to the semifinals where they will face No. 5 seed Bellarmine.

UMSL, making its first GLVC Tournament appearance since 2006, ends its season with a 9-7-2 record. Today’s game was sixth overtime contest of the season for the Tritons.

The Panthers held a 22-4 shooting advantage, placing six shots on goal, while UMSL put two on target. Sophomore Mike McCarthy took two shots for the Tritons.

Sophomore keeper Tim Boruff played all 105 minutes 42 seconds in the post, registering five saves.
