EVANSVILLE, IND. – No. 2 ranked Southern Indiana outscored the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s basketball team 21-7 to open the second half, pulling away from a six-point halftime lead en route to a 59-44 victory Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons suffered their seventh straight loss, while slipping to 10-12 on the season, including 4-9 in the GLVC. Southern Indiana remains unbeaten at 20-0 overall and 11-0 in the league.
Freshman Nicolai Oestbye came off the bench to record a career-high 14 points, netting 4-of-8 three-point field goals.
Southern Indiana raced to a quick 12-2 start to open the game before UMSL scored nine unanswered points to pull within 12-11 on a three-pointer by Oestbye. The Screaming Eagles then took a 26-20 lead into the intermission after scoring five straight points to end the first half.
The Tritons finished the game shooting 39.5 percent from the field, while Southern Indiana connected on 42.3 percent of its attempts and held a 30-26 rebounding advantage.
UMSL committed 20 turnovers, which the Screaming Eagles took advantage of, scoring 21 points on the Tritons miscues.
Freshman Lance Cannon pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, while adding seven points.
UMSL travels to No. 16 ranked Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday in a 3:15 p.m. contest. Go Back
