Women's Golf's Clara Vila Earns Academic All-District Honors

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior Clara Vila of the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s golf team has been selected to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District VII At-Large First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Vila, who holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.70 in psychology, was one of UMSL’s top golfers all year longer, posting a scoring average of 77.8.

She recorded two tournament victories, garnering medalist honors at the Maryville Women’s Fall Warm-Up (74) and at The Shootout at Aguila (70-75=145) in Phoenix, Ariz.

Additionally, Vila posted six top-10 finishes during the 2009-10 campaign and helped lead UMSL to the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional bid, where the Tritons finished sixth as a team. Individually, Vila tied for 13th place (79-77-77=233) in the regional and also posted a tie for 18th place finish (79-84=163) at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.

For her efforts, she earned all-GLVC playing honors.

To be eligible for nomination to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. Vila is now eligible for selection to the Academic All-America Team based on her first team all-district accolades.

The CoSIDA women’s academic at-large program recognizes athletes who participate in 13 different NCAA sports, including golf.
