KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team closed out a four-game series at Rockhurst with a split against the Hawks in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The hosts won the opener 4-2 in eight innings, while UMSL took the nightcap, 11-3.
Junior Manny Flores recorded two home runs in the victory, including a three-run shot in the sixth inning and finished with four RBIs and two runs scored, while junior Kenny Bechaud had a team-best three hits.
Junior Andrew Peterson picked up the win in relief, working two and one-thirds of an inning. He struck out two and allowed just one hit.
Rockhurst held a 14-11 edge in hits, but left 13 runners stranded to UMSL’s eight. The Hawks were also issued four errors.
A three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth lifted Rockhurst to the game-opening win.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, before an RBI ground out courtesy of senior Erik Walk scored Flores for the tie in the top of the seventh.
Senior Gurdine Acklin took the loss in the complete game, allowing all four runs on six hits, while striking out two and issuing two walks.
UMSL moves to 13-35 overall, including 9-20 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst now stands at 25-22 and 11-15 in the league.
The Tritons are back in action Wednesday at Missouri Western before closing out the season at home Saturday and Sunday against Missouri S&T. Go Back
