Tanner Announces Resignation as Assistant Softball Coach

ST. LOUIS, MO. - University of Missouri-St. Louis head softball coach Chuck Sosnowski has announced that Carrie Tanner has resigned as the Tritons’ assistant softball coach.

Tanner spent four seasons as Sosnowski’s assistant, primarily serving as the Triton’s pitching coach.

“It has been an honor to have someone with Carrie’s knowledge on our staff and she will be greatly missed,” said Sosnowski. “It is difficult to find a part-time coach who can juggle a full-time job and a family, but she did a great job of doing that and had a positive impact on this program.”

During her tenure, Tanner helped Sosnowski build the softball program into a national contender, going from 13 wins in their first season in 2006 to an NCAA Tournament qualifier and a 36-win program last season.

Tanner was also instrumental in developing Ally DeFosset into an All-American pitcher last season. In two seasons in the circle for the Tritons, DeFosset shattered the all-time strikeouts record (514) and finished her career ranked second with an ERA of 1.25. She was also named the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Daktronics Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year.

A search will begin immediately for a new assistant coach to replace Tanner.
