May 26, 2009ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior pitcher Allyson DeFosset of the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team has been named a 2009 Daktronics Softball All-American. DeFosset was selected to the third team and is just the third player in program history to be named a NCAA Division II All-American.
Laurie Aldy was a second-team all-American in 1987, while Lisa Houska was tabbed to the second team in 1989 and was a first-team all-American pick in 1991.
DeFosset, who was named the Daktronics Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year and the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year, led the Tritons to the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament and the GLVC regular-season crown after compiling a 22-6 record with a 0.74 ERA and 298 strikeouts. DeFosset recorded her second-career no-hitter in the opening round of the regional tournament, leading her squad to a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Ashland in its first regional appearance in 20 years.
DeFosset is the all-time strikeouts leader in UMSL history, recording 514 in just two seasons. Her 298 strikeouts this season also bettered her single season mark of 216 set last year. DeFosset also ranks second all-time at UMSL with a 1.25 career ERA, is fourth with 38 wins and fourth with 13 shutouts.
She has recorded 11 of those shutouts this season to set a new single-season record. Her 22 wins in 2009 ranks as the third best single-season mark.
