EAST PEORIA, ILL., May 7, 2010 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team saw its 2010 season come to an end with a pair of losses in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Friday.
The Tritons, seeded fifth, opened tourney play with a 9-1 five-inning loss to fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky before being eliminated by seventh-seeded Wisconsin-Parkside in a 7-6 loss.
The Norse’s Emily Schwaeble held the Tritons offense to just four hits, which included a homer and a double by senior Megan Brussman.
Junior Amanda Seib got the start, but worked just two-thirds of an inning before giving way to freshman Leslie Davis. Seib scattered three hits and allowed the first three runs, although just one was earned. Davis allowed six runs on seven hits in the final three and one-third of an inning.
UMSL held a 6-1 lead after two innings against the Rangers, but saw UW-Parkside reel off six unanswered runs to record the victory, including the game-winning home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth.
The Tritons were out-hit 12-8 and committed a pair of errors, leading to two unearned Rangers runs. Sophomore Stephanie Benson took the loss.
Junior Karey Kruse went 2-for-3 at the plate with a three-run home run in the first inning and also scored a pair of runs. Junior JaCee Ellis also finished with a pair of hits, including a three-run long ball.
UMSL ends its season with a 26-20 record.
