Hot Bats Fuel Softball to Sweep of Hawks

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team tallied 23 hits in a sweep at Rockhurst University Monday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Senior Megan Brussman went 4-for-6 and scored four runs, while senior Meaghan Bauer was 4-for-8 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Sophomore Stephanie Benson recorded the game one winner, pitching the complete game, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

With the game tied at 1-1, freshman Haleigh Jenkins provided the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning. The Tritons then tacked on five runs in the seventh before holding off a four-run bottom of the seventh by Rockhurst.

Freshman Leslie Davis improved to 8-6 with the complete game victory in the nightcap. The hurler allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out five.

UMSL scored five runs in the first inning and added three in the second for an early 8-0 lead and never looked back en route to the win.

The Tritons (23-17, 13-11 GLVC) return to action Friday, hosting Missouri S&T in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
