SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost a doubleheader at Drury University Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, falling 16-3 in five innings and 10-9 in 10 innings.
UMSL slips to 21-17 overall, including 11-11 in the GLVC, while Drury boosts its record to 21-28 and 11-11 in the league.
Four errors hampered the Tritons in the opener with the host Panthers recording just seven earned runs.
Junior Karey Kruse went 3-for-3 at the plate, while senior Meaghan Bauer had two hits. Sophomore Heather Arras delivered a three-run home run.
Dury held a 10-9 hitting advantage, but UMSL left eight runners stranded to the Panthers’ five.
Junior Amanda Seib took the loss in two and two-thirds of an inning, surrendering five hits and eight runs, including three earned. Junior reliever Crystal Koehler closed out the remaining one and one third of an inning, also allowing eight runs, including four earned, on five hits. Koehler also issued six walks.
The Tritons held a 17-13 hitting advantage in the nightcap, but left 12 runners on the bases.
Bauer went 5-for-6 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kruse finished 3-for-6 and also knocked out a home run and tallied two RBIs. Arras added a third home run for UMSL.
Drury plated seven runs in the third inning, but the Tritons reeled off nine unanswered runs over the next three innings for a 9-7 advantage. The Panthers then knotted the score in the bottom of the seventh before recording the game-winner in the bottom of the 10th.
Freshman Leslie Davis suffered the loss, working six and two-thirds of an inning in relief, allowing three runs on seven hits.
UMSL returns to the field tomorrow at Rockhurst in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
