UMSL vs. William Woods
JACKSON, TENN. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team improved its ledger to 3-1 on the season with a pair of victories Saturday afternoon. The Tritons avenged a loss to Union (Tenn.) yesterday with a 6-5 win today over the Bulldogs. UMSL also topped William Woods 15-5 in five innings.
The Tritons scored six runs on seven hits in the victory over Union (3-2). Sophomore Heather Arras produced a solo home run in the top of the fifth and finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and two run scored, while senior Katie Bartlett had a pair of hits, including a two-run double.
Freshman Leslie Davis earned the win, working four and one-thirds innings. She scattered five hits, while allowing four runs. Sophomore Stephanie Benson pitched in relief and recorded the save, striking out four in two and two-thirds innings.
A 12-run fourth inning helped spur UMSL to its win over William Woods (1-4). The Tritons tallied 12 hits in the victory, with Bartlett going 3-for-4 at the plate. Arras and sophomore Brooke Meyer each had two hits, while Meyer and junior Carolyn Oquendo finished with three RBIs each.
Junior Crystal Koehler recorded the win in the circle, throwing all five innings. The hurler allowed five runs on eight hits, while walking three and striking out two.
UMSL is slated to return to the field next weekend, traveling to Arkadelphia, Ark., for the Henderson State Hot Springs Classic.
