Screaming Eagles Edge Tritons in Women's Soccer, 1-0

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Southern Indiana scored the game’s lone goal in the 26th minute to earn a 1-0 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Screaming Eagles’ Jessica Gates took a free kick 30 yards out on the left side and scored as the ball crept through the legs of Tritons keeper Hanna Sayre in a mud-filled box for the victory.

The loss drops UMSL to 3-8-1 on the season, including 3-7-1 in the GLVC, while Southern Indiana moves to 7-7-2 and 6-5-1 in the league.

The Screaming Eagles held a 13-9 advantage in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Senior Sarah Stone took three shots for the Tritons, landing two on goal early in the second half in a 20-second span, but couldn’t get the ball past USI keeper Stephanie Boadmer.

Sayre played all 90 minutes between the posts for the Tritons, recording three saves.

UMSL is back on the field Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan on Senior Day. Prior to the start of the game, the Tritons will recognize their seven seniors on this year’s squad, including Stone, Amy Boehm, Anne Nesbit, Amy Fox, Maggie Gabris, Caitlin Farrow and Danielle Dahm.
