ROLLA, MO. – Missouri S&T scored the eventual game-winner late in the first half to hand the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team a 2-1 loss Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Senior Maggie Gabris recorded the lone score for the Tritons, sinking a shot off of a restart at the top of the box in the 19th minute. Gabris’ goal, which was her second of the season, tied the game at 1-1 after the Lady Miners took an early lead in the fifth minute.
Missouri S&T then recorded the game winning goal just two minutes and four seconds before halftime as neither team scored in the second half.
It was the second straight loss for the Tritons, who fall to 2-7-1 on the season, including 2-6-1 in the GLVC. The Lady Miners improve to 4-5-1 overall and 4-4 in league play.
Missouri S&T fired 13 shots, landing seven on goal, while on the other side of the field, UMSL took 10 shots, five of which were on target. Both teams recorded five corner kicks.
Sophomore keeper Hanna Sayre played all 90 minutes in goal, recording five saves.
Seniors Sarah Stone, Anne Nesbit and Amy Fox each took two shots, with Stone and Fox landing one on goal.
UMSL returns to action Wednesday, hosting cross-town rival Washington University in St. Louis in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m.
