ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Anne Nesbit scored two goals as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team ended in a 3-3 double overtime tie against visiting Rockhurst Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Don Dallas Field.
The overtime contest was the first of the season for the Tritons who move to 2-5-1 on the season, including 2-4-1 in the GLVC. Rockhurst moves to 4-3-1 and 3-2-1 in league play.
Nesbit gave UMSL a 1-0 lead four minutes into the game when she received the ball inside the box from fellow senior Caitlin Farrow on the right side and one-timed it past Hawks keeper Alyssa Miller.
Rockhurst countered in the 23rd minute to make the game 1-1, before Nesbit scored on a penalty kick at the 23:11 mark for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.
The Hawks would make it 2-2 heading into halftime when Morgan Boudreau got a slow roller to go into an empty goal.
UMSL claimed its third lead of the game in the 67th minute when senior Sarah Stone found the back of the net on a kick off the deflection of an opposing player following a free kick from senior Maggie Gabris. It was Stone’s first goal of the season.
Rockhurst managed to tie the game once again in the 71st minute to force the overtime.
After recording 16 first half shots, UMSL fired just three shots in the second half and ended the game with 23, landing 11 on goal. On the other side of the field, Rockhurst tallied 23 shots, with 13 being placed on target.
Farrow recorded eight shots, landing five on goal, including two shots on goal in the opening two minutes of the first overtime period. Nesbit finished with four shots, three of which were on goal.
Sophomore keeper Hanna Sayre played all 110 minutes in goal, recording 10 saves.
UMSL returns to action Friday, traveling to Drury in a 5 p.m. conference contest.
