November 09, 2009INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Sophomore middle hitter Weslie Gaff of the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team has been named the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office.
Gaff led the Tritons to a pair of victories over the weekend, helping UMSL secure the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s GLVC Tournament.
In her team’s 3-0 victory over visiting Bellarmine on Friday, Gaff posted six kills and eight blocks, including four solo blocks, in just two sets. She finished the match with a .479 hitting percentage and registered 12 points in the win.
She returned in a key league match against visiting Northern Kentucky on Saturday to record 15 kills and three blocks. In the 3-1 victory, Gaff hit .379, while recording 16.5 points.
For the week, Gaff averaged 4.75 points, 3.50 kills and 1.83 blocks per set, while hitting at a .400 clip.
Gaff leads the Tritons with a .340 hitting percentage and 1.09 blocks per set this season. She is third on the team in kills (2.43 per set) and ranks third in the GLVC in both blocks and hitting percentage.
UMSL (21-10) finished the conference season with an 11-3 record, good for third place in the league standings. The Tritons will meet No. 6 seed Southern Indiana in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament Friday at 12 p.m. The tournament is being hosted by Lewis on Nov. 13-15.
Gaff is the second Tritons player to receive GLVC Player of the Week honors this season with sophomore Erin Higgins receiving the honor October 12. Return To Articles
