Volleyball Clinches No. 3 Seed in GLVC Tourney With Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Sarah Eisnaugle recorded 16 kills, six blocks and five digs as the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Northern Kentucky Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, giving the Tritons the No. 3 seed in next weekend’s league tournament.

Both teams entered the regular season finale tied for third place in the conference standings. UMSL won by set scores of 25-17, 29-31, 25-23, 25-19 to improve to 21-10 on the season, including 11-3 in the GLVC, while Northern Kentucky slips to 20-11 overall and 10-4 in the league.

UMSL will open GLVC Tournament play next Friday against No. 6 seed Southern Indiana at 12 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by top-seeded Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.

The Tritons used a .292 hitting clip to garner the win, including a .609 percentage in the first set. Sophomore Weslie Gaff added 15 kills, while junior Liz Cook finished with 12. Junior Kayla Kinzinger directed the offense with 51 assists, while junior Carolyn Holstein registered 17 digs.

The Tritons edged the Norse, 10-9 in blocks, with sophomore Erin Higgins contributing five and Gaff totaling three.

TRITON TIDBITS: The victory was just the third over Northern Kentucky in the series for the Tritons, who move to 3-18 all-time against the Norse… the contest was slated to begin at 3 p.m., but did not begin until 3:30 p.m., due to Northern Kentucky’s bus breaking down en route to St. Louis… no UMSL player had a negative attacking percentage in the match.
