Cook Records 1,000th Career Kill as Tritons Down Knights

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior Liz Cook recorded a match-high 11 kills, while also notching her 1,000th career kill, helping the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-20 victory over Bellarmine Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Cook, who now has 1,001 career kills, became just the fifth player in program history to accomplish that feat.

The Tritons, playing in their first home match in 27 days, improve to 20-10 overall, including 10-3 in the GLVC. Bellarmine slips to 13-9 and 6-7 in the league. The victory was also UMSL’s ninth sweep of the season.

The Tritons hit at a .229 clip as a team and racked up 13 blocks, holding the Knights to a .059 hitting percentage. Sophomore Weslie Gaff finished with eight blocks, including four solos, and hit .455, registering six kills. Sophomore Erin Higgins added seven kills and six blocks.

Junior Carolyn Holstein recorded 15 digs, while sophomore Shelby Crawford finished with a career-best 11 digs and six kills. Junior Kayla Kinzinger dished out 35 assists.

UMSL closes out the regular season tomorrow, hosting Northern Kentucky (20-10, 10-3 GLVC) in a league contest that will determine third place in the conference standings.

TRITON TIDBITS: UMSL honored its two graduating players – Sarah Eisnaugle and Megan Walker prior to the start of the match… Eisnaugle moved into sixth place all-time in career kill attempts (2,469)… Weslie Gaff moved into a tie for seventh place all-time in UMSL history with 68 block solos… UMSL is now 16-8 all-time against Bellmarine.
