EVANSVILLE, IND. – After hitting an impressive .433 en route to a 25-17 opening set win, the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team saw host Southern Indiana rally for a 3-1 victory Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Screaming Eagles claimed the match by winning the final three sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, snapping the Tritons’ six-match GLVC win streak.
The loss drops UMSL to 18-10 on the season, including 8-3 in the league, while Southern Indiana improves to 14-13 overall and 6-5 in the conference.
The Tritons finished the match hitting .224, recording 60 kills, while USI recorded 45 kills and hit .242. UMSL hit .219 in the second set, .196 in the third set and just .114 in the final frame.
Sophomore Weslie Gaff tallied a match-best 17 kills, while junior Kayla Kinzinger finished with 43 assists, six digs and five kills.
Junior Carolyn Holstein registered 22 digs, her 16th 20-plus effort of the season.
Southern Indiana out-blocked UMSL, 10-3, and recorded six service aces to the Tritons’ one.
Junior Liz Cook and sophomore Erin Higgins also reached double-digit kills, finishing with 14 and 10, respectively.
UMSL closes out a seven-match roadswing with a Saturday matinee at Kentucky Wesleyan. Match time is set for 3 p.m. Return To Articles
