April 24, 2010ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis head volleyball coach Trent Jones has announced the signing of Erin Klostermann (Dubuque, Iowa) and Chelsea Burkle (Mt. Vernon, Iowa) to national letters of intent to join the Tritons program beginning with the 2010-11 academic year. They join Tabatha Albers and Anna McNulty who signed national letters of intent in the fall as members of the 2010 freshman class.
“We are extremely excited to add these two Iowa student-athletes to our program,” said Jones. “They are both tremendous athletes that have excelled in multiple sports in high school and will instantly help make us a better team.”
Klostermann prepped at Dubuque Wahlert High School, one of Iowa’s most storied programs. The three-year starting setter helped lead her team to two state berths and earned Iowa Class 3A first team all-state honors as a senior and third team honors as a junior. Klostermann was also a two-time first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference selection and earned first team all-academic and all-area team honors as a senior and was a second team Telegraph Herald All-Area pick her junior season.
She also plays club volleyball for Iowa Rockets and is a standout in track, earning all-state honors.
“Erin is one of the quickest players I have ever recruited,” Jones said. “She also has that passion and love for the game that will be infectious for our program. She can play multiple positions and a high level and I am looking forward to her getting her and seeing just where she is going to fit in.”
Burkle prepped Linn-Marr High School where she earned Iowa Girls Coaching Association Class 4A special mention all-state honors and first team all-Mississippi Valley Conference accolades after averaging 4.36 kills per game as a senior. Burkle also earned all-district team honors in her final campaign and was a second team all-conference pick as a junior. She also excelled in track for the Lions as a state qualifier and earned all-metro honors three years and
Burkle plays club volleyball for the Iowa Rockets, which won the Mideast Qualifier Tournament earlier this month.
“Chelsea is another athletic addition to our program,” Jones said. “She has played both outside and middle hitter and has done well at both positions. Like Erin, we aren’t exactly sure which direction we will go with Chelsea, but I am confident that which ever position she settles in at, she is going to be able to compete for a spot right away.”
