Singles Play Lifts Women's Tennis Past McKendree

ST. LOUIS, MO. - After falling behind 2-1 in doubles play, the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team claimed victories in five of six singles matches to earn a 6-3 win over visiting McKendree Tuesday afternoon.

The win moves the Tritons to 2-0 on the season.

Juniors Cassandra Maerz and Annie Gonzalez gave UMSL its lone doubles win, an 8-6 verdict at No. 3.

Then in singles play, the Tritons swept Nos. 2-6 for the match win. Sophomore Pujitha Bandi won at No. 2, while junior Aya Gombo was a winner at No. 3. Sophomore Leticia Garcia claimed a win at No. 4, while sophomore Katie Rynkiewich and freshman Kristiana Lazarova won at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

UMSL will close out the fall portion of its schedule this weekend at the ITA Regionals in Indianapolis, Ind.
