ROMEOVILLE, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to defeat Lewis, 5-4, Saturday morning in the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season finale.
After being swept in doubles play, the Tritons put together a tremendous effort to win five singles matches, including four in straight sets.
Pujitha Bandi earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 1, while Stephanie Thompson was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 2. At No. 3, Leticia Garcia recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win, while Adriana Garcia earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5. Then at No. 6, Stacy Goodman recovered from a 6-7 setback in set one to win the final two sets 6-1, 6-1 for the win.
UMSL improves to 7-8 overall with the victory, including 5-5 in the GLVC.
The Tritons return to action Monday, traveling to Missouri Southern.
