ST. LOUIS, MO. – Senior Blair Spencer and sophomore Johnny O’Mara teamed together for a pair of goals to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team to its fourth straight win with a 2-0 victory over visiting Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan Sunday afternoon on Senior Day.
Blair was one of 10 graduating seniors who were playing in their final game on Don Dallas Field. The group, which also includes Matt Burch, Chris Clarkin, Paul Hummel Danny Musenfechter, Eric Pitlyk, Joe Randazzo, Andy Schaul, Ryan South and Ryan Vines, were honored prior to the start of the contest.
UMSL improves to 8-5-2 overall including 6-4-2 in the GLVC with the win and keeps its bid of qualifying for its first GLVC Tournament since 2006 alive. Kentucky Wesleyan slips to 5-12-1 on the season, including 2-10-1 in the league.
Spencer notched his fourth goal of the year, scoring from 10 yards out in the 17th minute on a pass from O’Mara to give the Tritons an early 1-0 lead.
The duo then teamed up 30 seconds into the second half with O’Mara netting the goal inside the box on a pass from Spencer.
The Tritons fired 16 shots, landing eight on goal, with Spencer accounting for three shots, all of which were on target. The UMSL defense held Kentucky Wesleyan to just eight shots, including two on goal.
Sophomore keeper Tim Boruff played all 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves, while notching his third shutout of the season.
UMSL will close out the regular season with a pair of road GLVC games next weekend, beginning at Bellarmine on Friday at 2:30 p.m. (EST). Return To Articles
