Men's Soccer Nipped in Double OT at Missouri S&T

ROLLA, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team lost a 2-1 double overtime contest at Missouri S&T Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Miners won the game in the 109th minute, when Peter Vaccaro got a rebound shot past Tritons keeper Tim Boruff.

UMSL, playing in its fourth overtime game of the season, moves to 4-5-2 overall, including 3-4-2 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T moves to 4-4-1 and 4-3-1 in the league. The Tritons are now 1-1-2 in overtime contests this year.

Missouri S&T struck first in the game, scoring in the 29th minute when David Kekec nailed a shot from 18 yards out on the left side of the box.

Senior Blair Spencer knotted the game at 1-1 early in the second half, scoring on a rebound off a free kick by senior Joe Randazzo for his first goal of the season and the 11th of his career.

Junior Jack McKenna took a team-best three shots for UMSL, which finished with 11 in the game, three of which landed on goal. Missouri S&T fired 22 shots, landing nine on goal. Spencer and sophomore Johnny O’Mara each took two shots.

Boruff finished with six saves.

UMSL returns to action Friday, hosting Maryville in a conference contest set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
