WICHITA, KAN. – Sophomore Jordan Bruce found the back of the net in the 18th minute, helping the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Newman University Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.
Bruce fired the ball from 15 yards out on the left side off a pass from junior Johnny O’Mara for the game-winner and the only score of the contest.
UMSL held a 9-8 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. Junior Almin Sabotic and senior Jack McKenna took two shots each, landing both on goal.
Senior Adam Giesegh recorded two saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal to pick up the shutout.
UMSL returns to action Sunday, hosting Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Indianapolis in its home opener at 2:30 p.m.
