SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – Junior Matt Rau of the University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team earned medalist honors at the Illinois-Springfield Invitational, held Sunday and Monday at the Rail Golf Club in Springfield, Ill., helping the Tritons to a season-best third place finish.
Rau shot a 142, finishing two strokes under par and one stroke ahead of teammate Tim Cochran, who finished second with a 143. Rau fired rounds of 67 and 75, while Cochran shot rounds of 70 and 73.
The Tritons, who shot a first round score of 287 were tied with Drury for the lead heading into the final 18 holes, but shot a 306 to slip to their third place finish with a final score of 593.
Wisconsin-Parkside fired a 288 on its final 18 holes to claim the team title with a 581, while Drury finished second with a 589.
Also for UMSL, junior Matt McKiernan tied for 31st with a 157 (78-79), while senior Ryan Higgins tied for 41st with a 160 (81-79).
The Tritons close out the fall portion of their schedule next Monday and Tuesday competing in the Lewis Fall Classic in Lockport, Ill.
