September 29, 2009NOBLESVILLE, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team earned a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II Preview meet, held Monday and Tuesday at Sagamore Golf Club. The event was hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
The Tritons, who fired a first round score of 337 to sit in a tie for 13th place, shot a 327 on the final 18 holes, but slipped to a final placing of 15th with a total score of 664.
Central Missouri won the 18-team field with a 610 (309-301) on the 72-par, 7,038-yard course.
Junior Ryan Penfield tied for 32nd place with a 159 (79-80) to pace the Tritons individually, while junior Tim Cochran shot a 160 (80-80) to tie for 38th place. Junior Matt McKiernan followed with a 172 (88-84) to tie for 78th, while senior Ryan Higgins (90-86 176; T86th) and junior Matt Rau (95-83 178; T90th) rounded out the scoring.
Washburn’s Riley Piles earned medalist honors with a 148 (75-73).
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes of play, but was shortened to 36 due to the high wind conditions yesterday.
