March 30, 2008COLUMBUS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf team wrapped up its spring break trip with a fifth place finish out of 10 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Club in Columbus, Ind. this weekend.
The Tritons recorded rounds of 300 and 301 for a 601 total on the 72-par, 6,897-yard course. Grand Valley State won the team title, shooting rounds of 292 and 296 for a 588 total. Indianapolis was second (296-293 589), followed by Ferris State (298-297 595), Saginaw Valley State (304-296 600), UMSL, Southern Indiana (296-308 604), Bellarmine (304-301 604), Wayne State (303-307 610), Kentucky Wesleyan (313-306 619), Wisconsin-Parkside (315-305 620) and SIU Edwardsville (306-317 623).
Junior Matt Thomas led the Tritons individually, finishing in a four-way tie for ninth place. Thomas fired rounds of 71 and 78 for a 148 total. Freshman Ryan Penfield shot 75 and 74 for a 149 total to finish tied for 13th.
Freshman Tim Cochran tied for 21st (76-76 159), while sophomore Tim Swoboda tied for 24th (78-75 153) and junior Matt Winslow tied for 30th (78-76 154). Junior Padraic Kerr rounded out the Tritons’ scoring by tying for 54th (77-81 158).
UMSL will be back in action this weekend at the Northern Kentucky Spring Regional in Highland Heights, Ky.
