Men’s Golf Program Announces New Awards

ST. LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s golf coach Troy Halterman has announced the creation of two new post-season awards for the program. Additionally, he released the names of former players who have been recognized for these awards the previous three years he has been head coach of the program.

The first award is the “Ron Brewer UMSL Men’s Golf MVP.” This award will be given annually to the player who has contributed to the success of the team through his play on the course, leadership on the team and contribution to overall success of the program. The award is named in honor of UMSL Hall of Fame member Ron Brewer, who played four seasons from 1967-68 and from 1969-72. During his career, he was a four-time team MVP, played in three national championships and also struck the first shot in competition for UMSL Golf.

The other award is the “David Rhoads UMSL Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete.” This award will be given annually to a student-athlete who has performed at a high level in both the classroom and the golf course. The award is named in honor of UMSL Hall of Fame member David Rhoads, who was a two-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American. He also set many UMSL scoring records during his four-year career that still stand today.
